Have you ever noticed how people spend weeks planning thier holidays and yet they don;t spend a few hours a year or a day planning thier life?

Well tonight my family did a review of our plans for the year.  I drew up a plan over the Christmas New Year period.  4 weeks in and it was time to review, adjust and reset.  Spending this time provides a way to progress and achieve over time.  Me I am a concervative type person, I will take what I think is possible and round it down, and continue toround everything down.  It is better to achieve your goals rather than re-enforce failure.  Mind you it is important to stretch and not limit yourselves.

Well I have tested, measured and put more tools in place tonight to achieve our goals for the year.  Things hav enot gone as planned, but the results will be achieved.  A bit light a Pilot & a Plane, it spends 98% of the time off course, and the Pilot has to bring it back on coarse to get where it is supposed to go.  Keeping checking measuring and adjusting and you will achieve.

This is what I try and teach my son, you have to know wher eyou are going and not give in, change course where necessary but get to where you need to be.

    I hope this helps.

Cyber SafetyThe other day my son received an invitation to Facebook group called XXX Primary School (XXX standing for the school name) from a school friend.  My son is very cyber aware, I receive a copy of all of his e-mails, as a result this was intercepted quickly.  I spoke with the parent of the owner of the group and suggested that it be renamed to something more difficult for predators to find and join.  I did another search and found 3 other similar groups.

What groups are your children members of?  Can predators quickly identify them?

Speaking with other parents about this, they suggested we contact the Principal and get them to stop these groups.  That of course is impossible, we are talking about the internet after all.

The only way to protect our children and deal with this type of thing is awareness and to educate the parents and then the children.  We cannot leave the protection of our children with the schools.  We as parents have to take responsibility, responsibility to educate ourselves, only then are we in a position to coach and work with our children.

I trust my Son totally, it is the other people on the Internet I don;t and can;t trust.  I teach my Son “Cyber Karate” so he can defend himself.  I trust him and teach him to be aware of what is out there.

    Summary:-

    • Check the government site
    • The internet is dangerous
    • Schools cannot be left with responsibility of protecting our children
    • Hide your kids on the internet
    • Parents must get educated
    • Parents must get involved in their children’s internet usage
    • Teach your kids “Cyber Karate”
    • Don;t leave them alone with computers, work together in a communal area

shah_shills_for_nuclear_powerNuclear Power, is this our best option to save the planet or destroy the planet?  The question everyone asks when thinking about this subject.

Is this irrational and ill-informed in the 21st Century?

Australia has one of the largest stock pile of Nuclear fuel (Uranium, “Yellow Cake”) in the world, we sell it to everyone, including Pakistan (thankyou P.M. John Howard).  With such an important resource as this, I feel we have a responsibility to the world.  Should we really be selling it to anyone who can afford it?

How far does our responsibility go?  Does it also include the waste products?  As much as I would personally like to ensure that this is managed well, responsibility has to be in the hands of the consumer.

Personally I would like to see Australia only sell Uranium to 1st world countries (that can afford to build safe facilities and manager the waste products).  This is a problem in that it is really 2nd world countries that need Nuclear Power the most because they are the ones that are most likely to cause the most pollution without it.  The reason for this is they will use coal and fossil fuels in an unregulated way producing massive pollution as a result of their growing manufacturing.

This is impossible, for a number of reasons.

    • There are already long contracts in place with foreign powers and businesses, which would cost a fortune to break.
    • There is a huge industry in Central Australia in mining Uranium.

This does not stop use from not renewing contracts and being more selective in the future.  After all Mr Howard was not the most responsible global citizen, when he struck a deal with such an irresponsible country as Pakistan.

(Next I will be discussing should Australia use Nuclear Power.)
